Is it a match? Stefanie Heyne presented more results on the congruence of partnership preferences between Syrian and Afghan refugees and the German population at the Annual Conference of Experimental Sociology in Turin (28-30 August, 2024).

Is it a match? Irena Kogan presented first results of our paper on the congruence of partnership preferences between Syrian and Afghan refugees and the German population at European Population Conference in Edinburgh, UK (12-15 June 2024)
October 31st, 2024: New Publication
New paper on partnership preferences in the Zeitschrift fürt Soziologie. Using a factorial survey experiment in CILS4EU, we found low openness towards partnerships with refugees from Syria and Afghanistan among young adults in Germany!

Our PI Irena Kogan spoke at the Inaugural Lecture of the Research Master in Sociology and Demography at the University of Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, on 27th of October, 2022, with recent data from Parform Project on intermarriages with culturally distant refugees!

Great presentations in our ad-hoc group on interethnic partnerships at the 41st Congress of the German Sociological Association, with the theme „Polarized Worlds“ (September, 26th to 30th, 2022, University of Bielefeld), with first results on partnership preferences using CILS4EU data by the team of Parform Project!
We are delighted that our institute’s director Irena Kogan is one of the new fellows of the Federal Institute for Population Research.
April 1st, 2023: New Team Member
We are excited to welcome Muhammad Muhammad to the PARFORM team. As a student assistant, he will help translate and review the questionnaire for the quantitative survey of the first and second wave. He will also do research on different subjects related to the project and help administer our databases.

We are happy to announce that Jana Kuhlemann is now part of the PARFORM team. Jana is a PhD student in Sociology at the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS) of the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS, University of Mannheim). Jana will be involved in most phases of the project, from developing and testing the questionnaire for the quantitative surveys to evaluating and analysing the collected data at the end of the project.

We are excited to welcome Michelle Maier to the PARFORM team. As a student assistant, she will help review the questionnaire for the quantitative survey. She will also do research on different subjects related to the project such as the measurement of the physical attractiveness of interview participants. Further, she will provide support for different organizational tasks.

We are excited to welcome Omar Alsawadi to the PARFORM team. As a student assistant, one of his main tasks will be to transcribe and translate the Arabic in-depth audio interviews into German text. Moreover, he will help testing the questionnaire for the quantitative survey and check its translation from Arabic to German.

Below you can see a flyer in Arabic that we have distributed in various locations in Berlin and Mannheim so far. It describes briefly the PARFORM study and says that we are searching for our in-depth interviews for Syrian men, who are between 18 and 30 years old and migrated to Germany between 2014 and 2018.
May 1st, 2021: New Team Member
We are excited to welcome Chadi Abdul-Rida to the PARFORM team. As a postdoc he will contribute to the examination of the refugee partnership patterns and coordinate the organization of the in-depth interviews with recent refugees. Chadi has completed his PhD at the Technische Universität Chemnitz. His main interests are in the areas of migration research and family sociology. We are looking forward to working with you!
March 1st, 2021: New Team Member
We are happy to welcome Stefanie Heyne, who has joined the PARFORM team as a postdoc. She will be focusing on the examination of the preference structure of recent refugees and the established members of the German society, and coordinate the sample selection for the panel study. Her main research interests are gender inequality, family sociology, education and labour markets, comparative research and methods. She joins us from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
